The problem

VeriDash helps journalists and fact-checkers verify video and image evidence — but its interface limited speed, accuracy, and overall usability. Our question: how do you redesign it to make verification faster, more accurate, and genuinely easier to use?

Process

Expert interviews and a heuristic evaluation (Nielsen's 10 heuristics) to find what was broken, then an impact/effort matrix to prioritize fixes — followed by competitor analysis, sketching, and low-to-high-fidelity prototyping in Figma.

The original tool covered a lot of ground early on, but became less useful as verification got deeper — rigid workflow, weak feedback, and underdeveloped features slowed experts down exactly when they needed speed most.

The key decision

The built-in map was more trouble than it was worth — missing metadata broke it constantly. Rather than fix it, we cut it and linked out to GeoSpy, a dedicated geolocation tool. Sometimes the best design decision is knowing what not to build.

Result

A redesigned prototype tested with real domain experts, who confirmed it was faster, clearer, and better suited to real verification work. Session saving, dashboard customization, and clearer feedback were the most valued changes.
